An Enchanting Adventure to Tawang: Journey Through My First Snowfall and Snow-Kissed Peaks

Our adventure began in April last week, we started our journey from the bustling city of Guwahati, where 13 travelers from different states gathered, all eager for the journey ahead. Organized by SoloYolo travel group, and with one of their team leads joining us, we were excited about the stunning experiences that awaited us. As we made our way through winding roads from the Guwahati- Shergaon/ Bhalukpong route, we reached Sangti Valley by evening, where we settled in for our first night. The crisp mountain air and serene surroundings set the perfect tone for the days to come.

After freshening up, we gathered in the drawing room of our homestay to introduce ourselves and get to know each other. Our host then warmly offered us a taste of local homemade beverages, including kiwi wine and wheat wine. This was my first experience with these wines, and while the strong aroma and bitter taste were not to my liking, it was certainly an interesting introduction. Following the tasting, we enjoyed a delicious dinner together. With our bellies full and excitement in our hearts, we retired to our rooms, eager to explore the surrounding area the next day.

Day 1: Sangti Valley Serenity

On the second day, we traveled to the picturesque Sangti Valley, a destination nestled in the Eastern Himalayas. It is known for its hidden gem, tranquility, and natural beauty. During our stay, we spent two nights here, indulging in the valley’s charm and exploring Dirang Monastery. Surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sound of the river, it felt like a slice of paradise. Furthermore, we explored local villages, enjoyed bird watching, and even had a picnic by the river.

Day 3: First Snowfall and Arrival in Tawang

Our journey to Tawang was nothing short of magical. As we ascended through Sela Pass, we were greeted by a winter wonderland – my first snowfall! The sight of snow-capped peaks and the serene white landscape was mesmerizing. We couldn’t resist stopping for snowball fights and capturing countless photos. That same day, we visited Jang Waterfall, a place that felt truly enchanted. The refreshing breeze and the misty droplets from the waterfall kissed our faces. The soothing sound of the cascading water was like a form of meditation. Words can’t fully capture the profound sense of peace and wonder I experienced on this trip.

Reaching Tawang by night, we were welcomed by the warm hospitality of the locals. Once we arrived at our homestay in Tawang, we freshened up and enjoyed a lively evening playing various card games. Following our delightful dinner, we retired for the night. Moreover, Tawang, a town steeped in culture and history, promised us an array of adventures. Thus, we spent the next two nights here.

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, we set out to explore the serene ambiance and the stunning architecture of the monasteries left us in awe. Tawang’s highlights: exploring the town’s beautiful monasteries, including the famous Tawang Monastery, the largest in India, Y Junction, Bumla Pass, Jaswangarh War Memorial, and Shungatser Lake, famously known as Madhuri Point. The scenery felt like a snowy paradise. Despite the chill, we had a fantastic time discovering each breathtaking location.

Day 5: Bomdila’s Enchanting Charm

After soaking in the beauty of Tawang, we headed back to Bomdila. Thereafter, this quaint town, with its panoramic views and vibrant culture, offered us a delightful experience. We spent the night here, exploring local markets and savoring delicious local cuisine. The evening was spent sharing stories and laughter, making memories to cherish.

Day 6: Return to Guwahati

As our journey came to an end, we headed back to Guwahati with our hearts full of beautiful memories and minds brimming with stories to tell. Indeed, the trip to Tawang was not just a journey; it was an experience of a lifetime, filled with natural beauty, cultural richness, and unforgettable moments.
